Firstly, apologies for the lack of match updates recently! We promise to be back up and running with updates every week from now on!

In the main 2012 has started well for our teams, with some title aspirations getting clearer, and one side securing a second-place league finish.

The under-10s have now completed their league fixtures, and did so with a 1-1 draw away at Copmanthorpe on January 7th, and a thumping 7-0 home win over Brayton Belles.

Caitlin Wingfield was the scorer away at Copmanthorpe, while the seven goals against Brayton were scored by Olivia Smith (2), Ella Davis (2), Georgia Howarth (2) and Wingfield again with a single goal.

The three points from the two games has secured the under-10s a second-placed finish in their league. Well done to all the girls and to coaches Owen Willis and Mike Hyde!

The under-12s still harbour aspirations of a league title, although they started the year with a 1-0 loss away at Scotton Scorchers on January 7th.

On January 28th they made up for it with a 3-1 home win over Stamford Bridge. Rhian Cattermole scored twice and Megan Hirstle scored also.

They currently sit in third placed, but only on goal difference, and will be hoping Scotton and Poppleton above them slip up.

The under-13s sit in second place, and still have eight games to play, and so have all to play for!

They began 2012 with a big win against Stamford Bridge on January 21st, Aimee Ireland scoring four times in a 7-1 win. Molly Sinclair added two more and an own goal completed the scoring.

The under-14s have started 2012 with two good wins as they look to keep up the pressure on Easingwold and York RI above them.

On January 21st they beat Brompton Juniors 5-1. An own goal and an Emily Dowson strike set them going, before Chloe Marshall scored twice late on and Lizzy Alport sealed the win.

On the 28th they beat Kirkbymoorside 3-0. Dowson hit two and Marshall another fine effort. Their first game of February is a must win home encounter against second-placed York RI. Two points in that game will leave the girls just one point behind York with a game in hand.

The under-15s season started again on the 28th with an away game at Stamford Bridge. It was their first game in almost 10 weeks.

Two goals from Megan Green, and another from Rachel Laverack were not enough however, as the girls lost out 4-3.

The under-16s are are to play a game in 2012 due to postponements, but hope to face Wetherby at Sherburn on February 4th.

Likewise, the open-age team haven’t played a match this month, but are due to play Thirsk Falcons at Oliver’s Mount this Sunday, February 5th, kick-off at 2pm.

CUP DRAW

Meanwhile the draws have now taken place for the CYGFL cup competitions.

These are the fixtures for our teams’ games:

Under-10s – away at Knaresborough Celtic, Feb 25, QF

Under-12s – home vs York RI, Feb 25, 1st Rd

Under-13s – BYE to QF

Under-14s – home to Fulford, Mar 17, QF

Under-15s – BYE to QF. Home to Thornton Dale, Mar 17, QF

Under-16s – BYE to QF. Away at Poppleton, Mar 17, QF

Keep up to date on all fixture changes and updates at the CYGFL FA Fulltime site HERE

SCARBOROUGH Ladies under-12s moved up to top spot last weekend, after a 1-0 home victory against Fulford.

A single goal, scored by Darcey Boyes, catapulted Colin Hepples’ youngsters up to the top of the league for the first time this season.

The under-12s are now unbeaten in five matches, and their fdorm is a far cry from their opening 4-0 home loss against Scotton Scorchers.

Since that loss they have registered four wins and one draw – the draw against second-placed Poppleton.

With the final game of the season at home against Poppleton, Boro will be looking to pick up as many points as possible in the second half of the season.

They travel to Fulford this weekend, hoping to repeat the vistory of last weekend against their York-based rivals.

Elsewhere in league action, the under-16s’ unbeaten run ended, as they lost by the odd goal in five at Harrogate.

Chantel Padgham netted twice, and has now a personal tally of 16 goals in just seven games, but her brace was not enough to prevent a 3-2 loss.

A winning run was also ended for the under-13s, as they drew 2-2 against Poppleton Tigers, despite having won their previous six matches with ease.

Aimie Ireland and Molly Sinclair scored a goal apiece, but third-placed Poppleton scored two of their own to take a point.

With no other league action, the under-14s took the opportunity to play a 9-a-side friendly on a bigger sized pitch against league leaders York RI.

Despite being 3-1 down at half-time, the Boro girls rallied and upped their performance in the second half.

Emily Dowson scored another goal to add to one scored in the first half, while Ebony Earle volleyed in an equaliser.

In very windy conditions, the final score was 3-3 in what was a good workout for the girls ahead of their game against bottom side Ripon City Panthers this Saturday.

See Friday’s Scarborough Evening News for a picture spread from the under-12s game against Fulford.

CAITLIN Foster’s first goal in three years of playing for the club was the catalyst for victory for the under-14s at Wigginton last weekend.

Foster’s 20th minute strike was a speculative effort from just inside her own half, and caught out the home team keeper to put her side ahead.

Two goals either side of half-time by Emily Dowson sealed the win, and the game finished 3-0 to the Boro girls.

Lizzy Alport had hit the post in the first half, while Olivia Jenkinson, Chloe Marshall and the returning Laura Green all came close to extending the lead.

Ruvimbo Mhaka and Lizzie Sartain were strong in defence alongside Foster to help the team keep their second clean-sheet of the season.

The under-10s suffered a blow in their title hopes, as they lost 1-0 in a hard fought game at home against leaders Knaresborough Celtic.

The Boro youngsters still sit second in the table, but Knaresborough now have a four point lead going into the second half of the season.

Boro Ladies under-12s came away from a trip to table toppers and reigning champions Poppleton tigers with a hard fought 3-3 draw.

Having to turn around a 3-1 deficit, the Boro scorers were Rhian Cattermole, Cherie Playforth and Megan Hirstle.

Chantel Padgham and Chloe Bennett netted a brace each at home against Easingwold Town as the under-16s consolidated their position in second behind Poppleton with a 4-1 win.

With two games in hand and only two points behind, the oldest junior age group look odds on for a second title in a row.

The open-age side suffered a blip on Sunday however, when the lost 4-1 away from home at Middlesbrough Lionesses.

Gem Brady notched the solitary goal for her sixth of the season, but it wasn’t enough to stop the loss.

On Saturday 19th November just three Ladies junior sides were in action.

The under-10s travelled all the way to Knaresborough to face Scotton Scorchers. Their journey was a fruitful one, as Georgia Howarth scored to give them a 1-0 win – their third win in a row without conceding a goal.

Owen Willis’s girls are now second in the table behind leaders Knaresborough Celtic, who they face at home this weekend. A win by three goals or more will take them top.

Another in-form side is the under-13s, who succeeded on the road last weekend, and took advantage of a slip-up by the leaders and third placed side to sit in a strong position in second.

York RI and Poppleton drew 2-2, while Kev Mallen’s youngsters battled hard for a 3-2 away victory at fourth-placed Fulford. Aimee Ireland was on the goals trail once again – striking another hat-trick. She has scored 17 goals this season, including eight in the last three!

The under-13s face Poppleton this week, and will be looking to pull away and catch York, who now have only a narrow one point lead.

The under-15s were involved in another enthralling game – which ended in yet another draw. This time against Fulford Foxes at Overdale School.

They went 1-0 down early after a goalmouth scramble, but Rachel Laverack equalised when she bundled the ball over the line from Hayley Scholes’ corner. Hannah Green came close to giving her team the lead on a few occasions, and Lucy Brown was unlucky to hit a post from a thundering long-range drive.

After the break Millie Pickering gave the Boro girls the lead, with a great low finish after beating two defenders. Fulford however fought back and equalised again.

Boro sub Megan Green, who wasn’t feeling very well and so only played 15 minutes, came on and did superbly well to finish from the edge of the box to give Boro the lead.

But in the final minute Fulford snatched an equaliser to force Boro to accept their sixth draw from eight matches this season.

On Sunday Boro’s open-age side edged closer to the top of the North Riding Women’s League table, with a 3-0 win at home against York City Ladies Reserves.

Gem Brady put the side ahead, and Alice Turner and Diz Hodgson scored to secure the win. All three girls have come through the junior set-up at the club to represent the club at senior level, alongside Chloe Bennett, Selina Marsay and Olivia Burlinson among others this season.

The seniors now sit in third place in the league, with 14 points from six matches. Easingwold (played 8, 17 points) and Poppleton (played 7, 17 points) lie above. With three points for a win, and games in hand, Boro will be looking to push on in the second half of the season and go for the title.

The game of the weekend for Scarborough Ladies FC was also probably the game of the season so far –in any age-group!

The under-15s, having only lost one game in six, headed to Brompton in Northallerton buoyed by the 5-3 win against Stamford Bridge the previous week. Brompton had won five from five however, so it was going to be a stern test for Ian Firth’s youngsters.

And so it proved in the first half, when the home side took a 4-0 lead into the break.

After 10 minutes of the second half it was 5-0, and it looked as though the league leaders could inflict a cricket score on the Boro girls.

However, Maria Hammond scored to give her team some hope. But Brompton responded – scoring a sixth goal, and surely sealing their sixth win in a row.

The Scarborough girls could have let their heads drop, settled for the loss, and gone home to put this one to rest.

But instead they galvanised themselves, lifted their heads, and attacked the Brompton goal with wave-after-wave of penetrating moves.

With around 20 minutes of the hour-long game to go, Megan Green found the back of the net to make it 6-2. Hayley Scholes then scored directly from a corner for her side’s third. Green added her second and the side’s fourth soon after.

Brompton didn’t sit back completely however, and sub keeper Charlie Ward was forced into two vital saves.

Rachel Laverack then netted Boro’s fifth goal, and it seemed as though the impossible comeback was now possible. Laverack came close twice more as the Brompton keeper pulled off some heroics as the rest of her side couldn’t cope with Scarborough’s attacks.

Finally the pressure told, and with just minutes left, Hannah Green showed sublime skill and strength to dribble past three players before putting the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The girls celebrated as if they had won the game, and to be able to draw 6-6 after trailing 6-1 is an achievement worthy of celebration!

The under-13s’ form continues to be strong, as they creep up behind leaders York RI week by week.

Last Saturday they faced Fulford Flyers at home, and they recorded their sixth win out of the last six matches with a 3-1 scoreline.

Captain Aimee Ireland scored a hat-trick, and is now the club’s leading goal-scorer at junior level with 14 goals in seven games.

Her team mates Molly Sinclair and Kira McLean came close to scoring also, while defenders Megan Wingfield, Shian Sheader and Chelsea Jackman protected keeper Tiff Ireland throughout the game.

Becky Mallen and Jianna-May Pickard also contributed to a fine win which sees Kevin Mallen’s girls just two points behind the leaders with all to play for in the second half of the season.

The under-16s had to battle for their three points at home against Brompton Juniors.

But they kept their unbeaten record intact with a 4-3 victory – Chantel Padgham scored twice, with Chloe Bennett and Beth Taylor also netting.
The girls now site level on points with leaders Poppleton, but have a game in hand.

It was a slightly easier victory for the open-age side on Sunday, away at Thirsk Falcons.

Chloe Bennett helped herself to four goals and Phoebe Townsend a hat-trick, as their side won 12-0.

Alice Turner and Gem Brady struck a brace each, with Diz Hodgson scoring a single goal.

It was a strong victory considering the team were without senior regulars such as Nic English, Natalie Wilford and Laura Breckon.
